Welcome to Dulas Meadow – a peaceful new adult-only retreat on Anglesey
We’re delighted to welcome Dulas Meadow – Dôl Dulas in Welsh – to Tranquil Parks. Nestled in the beautiful countryside of north Anglesey, just south of Amlwch, Dulas Meadow offers a peaceful escape for campers, campervans and motorhomes.
Pronounced “Delas”, Dulas takes its name from the river that runs alongside the campiste, a fitting name for a tranquil retreat surrounded by nature .
Although the campsite only opened a couple of years ago, it has already earned a growing collection of glowing reviews and recently achieved a 4-Star AA rating. Behind the park are owners Alison and Gregg, whose lifelong dream of creating a peaceful holiday destination has finally become a reality.
A dream inspired by a love of Anglesey and the outdoors
Camping and the great outdoors have always been part of Alison and Gregg’s lives. Long before they created Dulas Meadow, they both spent family holidays in static caravans, under canvas and exploring Anglesey.
“Our love of Anglesey and the outdoors is just in our blood,” says Alison. “Nearly all our holidays as children were spent camping and walking here. It’s something we’ve always loved.”
When the couple first met, Gregg’s family had a static caravan on Anglesey and, as Alison remembers, “We did a lot of our courting here, driving down the country lanes and exploring the island.” The couple raised their four sons while running successful businesses in Liverpool, but they never lost sight of their dream of one day living in the place they loved most.
Finding the perfect place
When a rundown riverside property on Anglesey came onto the market, both Alison and Gregg spotted it online.
“It was my birthday,” Alison recalls. “Gregg asked what I’d like to do and I said, ‘I’d like to go to Anglesey and look at this property.’ He said, ‘I’ve seen that!'”
They instantly fell in love with the land, which sits beside a river and includes the remains of an old stone building that once formed part of a historic wool-dyeing mill. Interestingly, local people also told them that the upper field had been used for camping many years before, giving the couple confidence that their dream of a campsite could become reality.
Turning challenges into opportunities
Creating the campsite wasn’t without its challenges.
The land had neither mains electricity nor a mains water supply, and connecting both proved far more difficult than expected. Rather than giving up, Alison and Gregg found another solution. Today, Dulas Meadow has its own borehole, providing fresh water that is carefully filtered, tested and certified for guests to enjoy.
Then, as the Covid pandemic affected Alison’s face-to-face beauty business, the couple decided the time was right to focus on building the peaceful retreat they had always imagined.
Boutique camping with peace and tranquillity at its heart
Every decision at Dulas Meadow reflects Alison and Gregg’s desire to create somewhere guests can truly relax. The park welcomes adults only, helping to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that inspired the couple from the very beginning.
Unlike most Tranquil Parks, Dulas Meadow welcomes motorhomes, campervans and tents, but not touring caravans. Alison explains that this isn’t by choice. The local authority won’t permit touring caravans because of the combined length of a towing vehicle and caravan on the access lane to the site.
Instead, guests will find spacious grass pitches, two hardstanding pitches and facilities that go well beyond what many campers expect. There’s a wood-fired sauna, a cosy grill cabin where guests can enjoy a barbecue or simply relax around the fire, and one particularly popular feature – the beautifully designed ladies’ cabin, Meadow Blossom. Complete with a comfortable lounge, microwave, shower, dressing area, large mirrors and hairdrying facilities, it has become a firm favourite with guests.
“We’re boutique because everything we do is luxury, but rather than being glitzy, it has to fit in with the landscape,” Alison explains. “We don’t want to be intrusive.”
That philosophy also shapes the park’s next phase of development. Three luxury glamping pods are already under construction, designed to resemble traditional agricultural buildings while offering stylish interiors and modern comforts. A vintage Airstream caravan is on the way, which will be next to a glamping tent. “People are still going to feel like they’re out in the countryside, experiencing nature,” says Alison.
Discover the beauty of Anglesey
Dulas Meadow provides an excellent base for exploring one of Wales’ most beautiful islands.
Guests can enjoy spectacular beaches, scenic cycling routes and walks along the famous Anglesey Coastal Path, which circles the entire island. Nearby Parys Mountain, hidden coves and peaceful stretches of coastline offer plenty to discover, while a regular bus service from the end of the lane makes it easy to explore without using the car.
The park’s website also includes a helpful guide to local beaches, pubs, restaurants and attractions, complete with journey times by car, by bus and on foot.
A warm welcome awaits
Alison and Gregg live on site and remain closely involved in every aspect of the park, from greeting guests to maintaining the facilities. “We always try our best say hello to every guest,” says Alison.
“We’re nearly always available, and we still do the cleaning ourselves. I think that’s one of the reasons people often comment on how immaculate everything is.”
It’s this hands-on approach, combined with a genuine love of Anglesey and a passion for creating peaceful holidays, that makes Dulas Meadow such a welcome addition to Tranquil Parks. If you’re looking for a quiet escape surrounded by beautiful countryside, stunning beaches and warm hospitality, Dulas Meadow is ready to welcome you.
