Chain Bridge Touring Caravan Site

Northumberland

Chain Bridge Touring Caravan Site is a peaceful country park 4 miles from the historic border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland.

Nina and Patrick have developed the site to cater for adults only just 50m from the River Tweed.

Pitches are all large hard standings, with electric and water, to each pitch and the list of guest facilities in a new, 4 star amenities building will impress.

Riverside walks, fishing and  country pubs are all close-by while the best of the Tweed Valley and Northumberland coast are all within 30 minutes’ drive.

The perfect base for everywhere, from Edinburgh down to Alnwick, including Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and the Farne Islands.

Our Facilities on Park

Chainbridge Touring Caravan Site is a quiet country camping site with just 16 pitches, each large enough to comfortably accommodate caravan, awning and car.

Hard standing pitches are topped with pea gravel. Electric hook up is optional on all pitches and all feature individual fresh water taps. A grey waste disposal is available for motorhomes.

Our amenities block was refurbished in 2021 with underfloor heating in the showers and washroom/WC’s. Hairdryers are provided.

Also in the amenities building are:

  • Vegetable preparation/wash-up room with freezer and microwave for guest’s use.
  • Laundry with coin-operated washing machines, dryers and ironing board.
  • Drying Room

Guests also have use of common room, TV room and information room with tourist guides, local information and a book exchange.

The riverside walks provide excellent exercise for dogs (as well as their owners).

There is a bus stop a few moments’ walk from the campsite providing a limited service for shopping in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Pub food is available at The Fishers Arms, our local hostelry in Horncliffe village, about 10 minutes’ walk from the site.

Activities and Local Attractions

Chain Bridge Touring Caravan Site takes its name from the Union Chain Bridge, just along the River Tweed.

Once a principal border crossing, enjoy the views crossing its 360ft span into Scotland. Further downstream are the beautiful gardens of Paxton House.

For dedicated anglers Chain Bridge Touring Caravan Site is ideally located for trout fishing as well as salmon in season. And for walkers, there is as much wildlife as fish, so look out for kingfishers, otters, wildfowl; possibly even a seal.

The Tweed valley becomes more scenic as you follow it along Scottish Borders to the towns of Coldstream, Kelso, Newton St Boswells, Melrose and Galashiels. It is a really pleasant day’s touring.

The walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is a gem of history and architecture, having been fought over for centuries by the English and Scottish monarchies due to its strategic importance as a trade route and seaport.

The town is now “Officially” English and the regional commercial centre where you will find retail therapy and supermarkets.

Berwick-upon-Tweed has a useful interactive guide to help you visit attractions around the town.

Your visit to Northumberland is not complete without exploring our dramatic coastline.

Rugged cliffs, rocky islands and expansive golden beaches can all be reached within 30 mins drive from the caravan site.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is accessed by causeway at low tide to visit its iconic castle (pictured) and monastic ruins.

The Farne Islands, rocky outcrops perilous to vessels and once the home of saints and lighthouse keepers, are now among the largest sanctuaries for seals and seabirds including Puffins.

Another iconic image of Northumberland is Bamburgh Castle, magnificent coastal home to the Kings of Northumbria, now the largest inhabited castle in UK.

We’ve just mentioned a little of what you can see in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

Don’t forget to visit Chain Bridge Honey Farm when you want to stay around the caravan park and there’s the World Heritage site of Hadrians Wall on your journey across Northumberland to Chain Bridge.
