Stretton Lakes joins Tranquil Parks
It’s always exciting to announce a new member park. This time it’s even more exciting because this adult only touring site is brand new!
Stretton Lakes in Rutland, which specialises in fishing lakes and luxury lodges, has just opened a 26-pitch adult only touring site by one of the lakes. It’s run by husband-and-wife team Rowland and Rachel, and Rachel took some time out of her busy schedule to tell us more.
“We have 8 lakes and 7 are available to fish. Any guest can fish any lake for free!” she says. This is a major advantage for guests who are keen on fishing as the lakes contain many species and are popular with non-residents.
Developed on 120 acres of farmland, it was Rowland’s grandfather who originally started the fishing lakes. They added a Caravan Club Certificated Location (CL) in 2002, followed by the first log cabins in 2008.
There are now 7 luxury log cabins around the lakes (plus a pretty thatched cottage for rent 4 miles away). Stretton Lakes is open throughout the year.
“We aim to provide peace and tranquility. It’s very quiet here and surrounded by woodland all with public access, offering many different walking routes” says Rachel.
Luxury lakeside pitches
The new touring site pitches are a maximum of 7 metres from the water. They are all hardstanding and fully serviced with 16 amp electric hook-up, water supply and a grey water drain.
New facilities with Individual bathroom suites
A stunning new facilities building for the touring site features good sized private shower rooms and laundry facilities. The bathrooms have rainfall showers and oak washstands with raised stone basins, all finished to a very high standard.
VisitEngland awarded the site 5 star Gold as soon as it opened in mid-June!
Dog friendly touring park
Dogs are welcome at Stretton Lakes and the footpaths through the surrounding woodland provides plenty of choice for relaxing walks. There’s also a dog wash on site.
Why is Stretton Park adults only?
The reason why the new touring section is adults only (like the CL and most of the log cabins) is to maintain the peaceful atmosphere and surroundings that Stretton Lakes enjoys, being 1/2 mile fom a public road.
About the local area
There are 2 award winning pubs about half a mile away in the village of Stretton:
- The Jackson Stops – featured in previous Michelin Guides and the AA’s Pick of the Pubs 2023
- The Olive Branch – Previously holders of a Michelin star, and winner of numerous awards, it’s currently Great Food Club Pub of the year 2023
Rutland Water, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in Europe is around 8 miles away. Famous for watersports, bird watching and trout fishing, it’s a popular spot for walking and cycling – 17 miles right around or 23 if you include the peninsula. The nature reserve at Rutland Water is home to the Osprey project, where you can watch them nesting.
Oakham and Stamford are both about 7 miles away. Oakham is a lively market town, while Stamford is known for historical architecture.
Melton Mowbray, famous for its museums, country park, Stilton cheese and, of course, pork pies, is about 20 minutes’ drive from the park.
Further touring site developments
Rachel intends to have essentials available to buy in reception in the near future because many items are already provided to log cabin guests. She has developed an extensive information board in the facilities building with tourist and emergency information.
(Please note that a couple of pictures show the CL as the touring site is so new.)
