Bath touring park voted UK’s top spot for adults
Readers of two top touring magazines have voted a hideaway Somerset touring park as their favourite “adults only” holiday spot – for the eighth year in succession.
Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park held on to its title in the face of stiff competition from scores of other UK parks offering a totally grown-up holiday experience.
Based in Bishop Sutton near Bath, the family-run park’s triumph came after it polled the highest number of votes from readers of Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome.
The magazines each year run a “Top 100 Sites” survey in which caravan and motorhome enthusiasts deliver their verdict, under various categories, on Britain’s 3000-plus touring parks.
The facilities, customer care and picture-postcard surroundings at five-star Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park are unequalled by any other adult only touring and caravan parks.
But the honours didn’t stop there because after the votes were counted, Bath Chew Valley also emerged as readers’ favourite park in the whole of Somerset.
Once again, Bath Chew Valley’s top park title for the county was received for the eighth year running.
The park’s 45 pitches are spread across more than four acres of landscaped grounds, including a recently planted woodland of indigenous trees which is a magnet for wildlife.
This year, the park was once again presented with the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level in recognition of the park’s raft of initiatives to protect flora and fauna.
Bath Chew Valley has been a child-free environment for almost 25 years, and park owner Keith Betton says it has always strived to make “tranquillity” one of its most appealing features:
“We have an incredibly diverse range of visitors from this country and overseas, and the majority come as a result of a personal recommendation,” said Keith.
“Not surprisingly, a large number are teachers and child care professionals who are happier not being reminded of their jobs when they go on holiday.
“But we’re very popular too with young professionals and older couples whose idea of a perfect getaway is somewhere quiet and peaceful where they can totally switch off,” added Keith.
For those who enjoy blending their breaks with a spot of sporting activity, the park adjoins a championship fishing lake and country park popular with bird-watchers and walkers.
Bath Chew Valley is also a founder-member of Tranquil Parks, the UK’s leading group of 36 quality touring parks providing an exclusively adult-only touring experience.
Keith said that he and his staff were delighted at once again taking the national top-spot in the “adults only” category of the reader survey, as well as overall best park in Somerset..
He added that 2016 would see further investment in the park, though he was especially pleased that the poll judged not just facilities, but also the quality of the park’s hospitality – an important feature, said Keith, of the experience at Bath Chew Valley.
