Tranquil Parks in Devon & Cornwall 2025

Travelling to the southwestern tip of Britain can sometimes feel like going abroad! With its 900 mile-long coastline, quaint villages, exotic gardens and unique history, myths and traditions, it definitely has a feeling of ‘otherworldliness’.

The region also has a milder climate than the rest of the UK, especially in winter, so it’s no wonder that it’s popular for holidays throughout the year. In this report we’re giving an update on the 7 adult only Tranquil Parks in this special area, 2 of which are open all year round, as well as the teams behind them. (We’re using the same order as our 2025 brochure.)

Trethem Mill – only 5 star park on the Roseland Peninsula

We were delighted to welcome Trethem Mill Touring Park to Tranquil Parks in 2021, the first season it went child free. The Akeroyd family have run the park for over 30 years, creating a peaceful haven in beautiful grounds, which now has VisitEngland 5 star Gold and AA 5 star Platinum status.

Their most recent improvements for the 2025 season, which starts on 1 May, have been to remove several pitches in order to enlarge existing ones. You can choose from fully serviced, gravel-based pitches to grass pitches with electric hookup for tents.

Trethem Mill is a great base for walking. It’s on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula in south Cornwall, three miles from the fishing villages of St Mawes and Portscatho. Key local attractions include St Just-in-Roseland Church with its waterside, semi-tropical garden. A new interpretive centre has opened here and Renwicks café was recently refurbished.

There’s a local bus service from the bottom of the park’s lane and a regular ferry service between St Mawes Harbour and Falmouth. Also worth exploring in the area are St Mawes and Pendennis Castles, Trelissick Gardens and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, as well as the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

The amenities building houses modern facilities, including shower suites, a licensed shop, launderette and information area. There’s plenty for four-legged companions too, with a 3-acre dog walking field. Kentwone Dogs is now open in St Just-in-Roseland village, providing dog classes and a day care centre.

Cardinney – countryside haven close to Land’s End

Cardinney Caravan & Camping Park is a family-owned site set in farmland midway between Penzance and Land’s End. It went adult only in 2022, the year it joined Tranquil Parks.

In the summer of the following year, James and Emma Molyneaux, who are local to the area, took over the park and they have been working hard to maintain it to a high standard and make improvements ever since.

Here you can expect a relaxed atmosphere in a thoughtfully landscaped area. A feature of the park is the large amount of mature hedging providing privacy for the spacious pitches and habitat for wildlife. They now offer a range of pitches from premium fully serviced hardstanding to unserviced grass.

If you’d like to try the park without a touring unit or tent, there’s now a large bell tent giving an off-grid glamping experience. The site also has a modern shower block and laundry facilities, plus WiFi throughout the site.

Dogs are welcome and have an enclosed exercise area, with a maximum of 3 per pitch.

Killiwerris – upgrades continue in 2025

In July 2020, Josie and Steve took over Killiwerris Touring Park, realising their lifelong dream. This small, 18-pitch park, which was already adult only and a member of Tranquil Parks, is near the village of Chacewater, approximately 5 miles outside of the beautiful Cathedral city of Truro.

The friendly couple, who are keen campers themselves, have introduced many improvements and upgrades, earning an AA 5 star Gold rating. There have been so many positive changes, we can’t list them all here, but major improvements include direct access to the local bridle path, a yoga studio, free WiFi, tree management and lots of new planting.

And that’s not all! For 2025, there’s a brand new snooker and darts room, a self service cafe with new seating areas inside and out, plus a new dog convenience area.

Just for touring units, all pitches have 16 amp electric hookup and a drinking water connection. The hardstanding pitches also have grey waste water drains. Provisions such as essentials and ice cream are available at reception.

The local village of Chacewater is less than a mile away, where you’ll find a Post Office, fish and chip shop, bakers, general store and pub. With good access to the A30 many of Cornwall’s great attractions are a short drive away, such as the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan (about 40 minutes).

Killiwerris also has dog friendly accommodation in the form of a fully equipped annexe and static caravan.

Moor View – visions of Dartmoor

Moor View Touring Park is a quiet country retreat with great views across Dartmoor National Park. Open all year round, it’s a family business with the Manager, John, running things day-to-day.

This area of South Devon is renowned for walking, beaches, coastal towns and seafood restaurants. For details of upcoming events in the local area, see the park’s News & Events page.

With this park staying open all year long, all the pitches at this park are fully serviced with 16 amp electricity, fresh water, grey waste and WiFi, and most having a large hardstanding area. There are three different sizes of hardstanding on these pitches, which also have grass areas and privacy hedges – Small (9×5.5m), Intermediate (11x6m) and Super-sized (9×10 hardstanding plus 9×5 grassed area with picnic table). This park also accepts tents and the grass pitches are 15x15m.

Moor View is a 10-minute walk from the California Inn which dates back to the 14th Century. It’s dog friendly and offers traditional pub meals. For a comprehensive list of things to see and do, which range from walking and water sports to stately homes, historic wartime museums and gardens, see the park’s Places to visit page.

Dogs stay free of charge at Moor View and the large onsite dog walking area is almost half a mile long. If you enjoy walks on the beach, some of the local beaches do ban dogs during the summer, although others allow them all year round, including Breesands, Dawlish Town, Ness Cove, Salcombe North and Torcross beaches.

Parkland – luxury dog-free touring, camping and glamping

Parkland Caravan, Camping & Glamping Site joined Tranquil Parks in 2023 bringing another dog-free and top-rated park to our group. Run by Tracey and her partner James, the park has been in James’s family since 1971, with his great-grandparents having established the first campsite in the area many years ago! Child-free since 2019, Parkland has been dog-free for more than 40 years.

Parkland’s mature, landscaped grounds and gardens provide panoramic views over Kingsbridge, Salcome and rolling countryside. It’s only 4 miles to pick up the South West Coast Path and many guests bring kayaks and electric bikes.

If you’re looking to explore the local towns of Kingsbridge, Salcome or Dartmouth, you don’t need to drive as there’s a bus stop right outside the park entrance.

Now rated 5 star Platinum by the AA, the park’s 46 pitches are both grass and hardstanding. All are fully serviced with 16 amp electric hookup, mains drinking water and grey waste drainage. A luxurious feature is that each of the large deluxe pitches have individual, private ‘ensuite’ facilities.

Last year the new onsite guest lounge called the ‘Cowshed’ opened, giving guests access to a comfy place for watching TV, playing board games, making hot drinks or doing some work. Other onsite amenities include ‘hotel-style’ washrooms with large showers and baths, kitchen, laundry and licensed shop. A complimentary day pass to a local spa is also available to guests!

Glamping options are a cosy cabin and shepherd hut, both with ensuites and kitchens, as well as glamping pods which have an ensuite toilet with washbasin plus kitchenette. There are also basic glamping pods with mini kitchens and decks.

Self-catering options are a one-bedroom bungalow with great views, a large wetroom shower (suitable for disabled use) lounge, dining area and fitted kitchen. The other self catering accommodation is a cosy double room with ensuite shower and micro kitchen.

Woodland Springs – tour, camp or glamp on Dartmoor, or try out a touring unit

Woodland Springs Touring Park had new owners at the start of this year – a family owned and operated company belonging to Kevin & Claire Spreyer called KCS05LTD. The park is now run by Steve and it has a longer open season from March till January.

In recent years there have been many improvements and upgrades to the site’s facilities, with new fully serviced hardstandings suitable for larger touring units, a shop, dog shower and BBQ area, to name a few. It’s an AA 5 star Platinum park, and was AA Campsite of the Year for the South West 2021-2022.

Surrounded by trees and farmland, Woodland Springs is a peaceful and relaxing with a great variety of bird visitors. It’s a great base for exploring Dartmoor National Park, Exeter (18 miles away) and the South West with the A30 within easy reach of the park.

There are 6 different types of pitches, ranging from basic grass pitches without hookup, basic pitches for tents (weather dependent) and grass electric pitches for tents only. Small campervan and roof tent pitches are for vehicles of 5m or less. Fully serviced pitches are for caravans, motorhomes, campervans and tents and Premium pitches are extra large, fully serviced hardstanding pitches specifically for larger units more than 7m long. See Our Pitches on the park’s website for full details.

When it comes to facilities, you’ll find free showers (including a disabled suite), free Wi-Fi across the site, a small shop for provisions, local ice creams, dog treats, camping essentials, etc., a laundry, and information point. Dogs have an enclosed field to run around in with an all-weather agility area with professional equipment.

New for 2025 – touring units for hire

If you don’t have your own unit, there are 2 basic pods providing a glamping option. Alternatively, if you’re thinking about buying a caravan or motorhome, you can ‘try before you buy’ by hiring a unit. At the time of writing, there were 2 luxury Swift caravans, a Swift motorhome and a Mercedes Sprinter-based custom conversion for hire. (The hire units are not for road use.)

Hallsdown Farm – dog free, rural retreat

Andrew and Claire Mather invite you to ‘get away from it all’ at Hallsdown Farm Touring Park, their rural touring retreat in North Devon. It’s on their farm which is home to a flock of 150 sheep and pets including goats, pigs, alpaca, ponies, ducks and Gerald the donkey, all of whom  guests are invited to meet!

The park is relatively new, having opened in 2017. It joined Tranquil Parks 2 years later.  As it’s on a working sheep farm, dogs are not allowed at this park.

The dog-free policy and rural location enable Hallsdown Farm to offer the ultimate in peaceful getaways. There are 30 generous pitches catering for a range of touring units (but not tents).

Choose from fully serviced hardstanding pitches with tap, grey water drain and 16 amp electric hookup or a grass pitch with individual water tap and electric. Top of the range are Premium pitches which even have their own private individual ensuite toilet and shower!

While staying here you can take a stroll round Wistlandpound reservoir which is half a mile away and on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Carry on a little further and you’ll reach Arlington Court, an impressive Regency house, and the National Trust Carriage Museum.

Hallsdown Farm is just 6 miles from the North Devon Coast. The seaside town of Ilfracombe and the extensive sandy beach at Woolacombe are both just over 20 minutes’ drive away.

Winner of several local tourism and national awards, Hallsdown Farm is rated 4 stars by the AA.
