Parkland Caravan, Camping & Glamping Site joins Tranquil Parks

We’re delighted to introduce our newest member park – Parkland Caravan, Camping & Glamping Site in Devon. It’s a family-owned site in a beautiful area, and unlike most Tranquil Parks this one is dog free as well as child free!

We spoke to Tracey, who runs the 5-star park with partner James. The couple live on site and there are no wardens, but there is a small team of local staff who help out. Tracey told us about Parkland’s history, the park today and some upgrades on the way.

How Parkland started

“Parkland has been in James’s family since 1971 and James has been running the site for 38 years” Tracey explained. Before Parkland, James’s great grandparents had established the first campsite in the area. His grandparents carried on the tradition on another site locally. They retired to Parkland to run some cattle, but regular campers found them after a few weeks and wanted to stay, so it all started for the family again!

This is Parkland’s fourth year as an adult only park. James’ decision to become adult only was  “One of the best decisions we ever made!” They now benefit from a longer season and higher occupancy as a result of the over 18s policy.

The exclusion of dogs goes back much further, however. This was a decision taken by James’s grandmother more than 40 years ago.

Exploring the local area

Parkland is located in a wonderful part of South Devon known as the South Hams. The site’s mature landscaped grounds and gardens offer panoramic views over Kingsbridge and Salcombe, as well as the rolling countryside towards Dartmoor National Park.

With the South West Coast Path just a 4-mile drive away, Tracey points out that there’s plenty to do in the area. South Devon is known for its beautiful beaches, and it’s no surprise that many guests bring kayaks as this is a great area for water sports. Many guests also bring electric bikes, despite the local area being quite hilly! The market town of Kingsbridge, the beautiful resort of Salcombe and historic Dartmouth are within easy reach of the park, no need to drive as a bus stop is a short walk from the site.

Onsite facilities and future plans

Today, Parkland has 47 pitches, both grass and hard standing. All are fully serviced with 16amp electric hookup, mains drinking water and grey waste drainage.

An unusual and very luxurious feature is that each of the large deluxe pitch option have their own individual private ‘ensuite’ facilities!

Don’t forget there is an onsite, licensed shop, so no need to pop out for your essential provisions or treats!

The glamping options consist of a cosy cabin and a shepherd’s hut with ensuite toilet and shower, 2 pods with ensuite toilets, plus 2 additional pods without facilities. All the units have beds prepared with quality linens, mini kitchens and outdoor seating.

There’s also self catering accommodation on site: a small bungalow, a luxury cabin and a double room.

Over this coming winter, Tracey and James plan to build ensuite facilities for the 2 pods that do not have them. They are also planning to add a new building that will house a guest lounge, somewhere to relax with a complimentary coffee, read a book from the lending library, make use of a workstation (if you must work) or socialise with old and new friends!

We’re excited to see new developments taking place at this stunning park and look forward to sharing the news about them with you.
