Welcome to our new member Sunnyside Farm Caravan Park & Fishery near Shrewsbur

We are delighted to welcome Sunnyside Farm Caravan Park & Fishery as our new member for 2025. It’s a beautiful farmily run park and we recently spoke to Zac who lives onsite and runs the park, along with other members of the Milward family – dad Karl, mum Jo, younger brother Harry and Zac’s partner Melisa.

So how did this friendly family come to be running Sunnyside? “It’s been a lifelong dream of my Dad’s to have a caravan park and fishing lake” Zac explains. Starting out on a council estate in Shrewsbury, the family made a success of rental properties, groundworks and garden design businesses.

When a livery stable with fields came up for sale in 2016, Zac’s dad took the opportunity and the family has been developing the site ever since, starting with a 5 pitch CL site with shower block and fishing pool.

How Sunnyside Farm has evolved

In the facilities block you’ll find large individual shower rooms which are wheelchair accessible.

The touring park went adult only 4 years ago. The risks became too high after the fishing lake enlargement, plus the park had never focused on providing entertainment for children.

There is a large barn onsite which currently houses businesses involved in caravan servicing and van conversions. Zac has plans to use this area for a small bar, a fishing tackle shop, a reception and shop for essential groceries. Now rated AA 4 Star Gold, the reception and shop should get Sunnyside up to 5 Star standard.

The whole family lives on site and Zac is a full time warden. As the site grows, they plan to keep it staffed by the family.

Exploring Shrewsbury and the local area

Directly from the park you can access a public walkway to woods about 500 yards from the main gate. This is a great option for guests with dogs (maximum 3) as dogs must stay on the lead around the park.

It takes less than 10 minutes to walk to the end of the lane where you can catch a bus or find the local pub, the New Inn, which serves a wide range of highly rated pub food.

There’s a good bus service into Shrewsbury, a historic, picturesque and fascinating market town with plenty of shops, including supermarkets. From here you can travel to Telford with its famous historic attractions, or into Wales.

Zac explains that the bus depot is actually at a nearby park and ride, which conveniently also has a Tesco. It means you can park a motorhome, go for a day out and do your shopping as you head back to the park!

“Things to do are endless now!” says Zac. There are a lot of National Trust walks and English Heritage sites a short drive away. RAF Cosford is about 24 miles away, and when the famous airshow is on (8 June 2025) the Red Arrows and other aircraft use a nearby field.

Coarse fishing at Sunnyside Farm

A keen fisherman himself, Zac takes the welfare of the lake’s fish very seriously. Everyone needs a day ticket to fish at Sunnyside and you must be over 18 to fish there. Visitors who are not staying at the park may also use the lake.

The 20 peg lake has a good footpath right the way around it, wooden stages and a variety of depths. They have stocked the lake with a large amount of carp, bream, tench, ide, roach and F1s.

Holiday homes at Sunnyside Farm

Next year they will bring the total number of holiday home pitches to 50 and you’ll be able to view them during the 2025 season. For those interested in buying a holiday home, use is restricted to 11 months of the year (the park is closed during January) and no more than 50% of that time can be spent on site. You also need to prove that you have a permanent home in order to qualify for a holiday home.
