News from our parks June 2025

Summer is here and we hope you’ll be enjoying trips to our adult only caravan parks and campsites this season. Our park teams around the country have spent the last month working hard on the gardens, beds, pots, planters and hanging baskets to get their parks looking their best, ready for your arrival.

(Top photo shows Sunnyside Farm Caravan Park & Fishery in Shrewsbury.)

Well done to the park teams for all their hard work in making this year’s plantings and displays look absolutely gorgeous. (This spring sunshine has also helped!)

The photo shows lush blooms and plants at Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park. Below (L-R) are a new sheep planter at Blue Rose Country Park, Warden Kate sprucing up the bee-friendly beds at Brookside Country Park, and one of the hanging baskets at Eye Kettleby Lakes.

In other news…

Two surprises at Two Mills

‘Nan’ at Two Mills Touring Park recently went to the local garden centre farm shop for some eggs, and came back with a pair of beautiful deer statues! Park owner Steve has just turned 60, but there was a more important birthday to celebrate – Crosby’s 3rd! Here he is at his tea party with delicious homemade ‘pupcakes’ which went down a treat with all his pupster friends onsite.

Congrats to Cari

If you’ve stayed at South Wales Touring Park, you may have met Cari, who helps out during the holidays. Her mother Cathrin and uncle Hywel, who own and run the park, are very proud of her latest achievement: the Bangor University North Wales School of Medicine Award for her paper on weight loss drugs! Many Congratulations, Cari!

Stepping out at Blue Rose

Guests who took part in the first line dancing session in the Blue Rose function room really enjoyed it. Expect more to follow.

The staff at York Naburn Lock Caravan Park have been enjoying the riverside surroundings, taking beautiful photos on local walks.

The Brookside new holiday home development is ready and guests in tourers have also been making themselves at home (bottom left).

Bijou units and love on the rocks at Bath Chew Valley

The team at Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park were delighted to welcome guests touring in contemporary compact caravans this month.

Both the Campod and Go-Pod designs are robust, easy to tow and are available with all the facilities. As well as being lighter to tow, the ‘compacts’ can fit into a car garage at home!

Warden Kerry discovered painted pebbles left on the park’s flower beds last month. The message reads: “Worc’shires Love on the Rocks, Keep or Rehide”, signed JB. You can look up the Worcestershire ‘Love on the Rocks’ group on Facebook, whose 4,200 members decorate pebbles and spread a little joy by leaving them at places they visit… What a lovely idea! (Of course, the pebbles were returned to the flower beds for guests to find.)

Wildlife watch

One of the newest members of the Back of Beyond team, Toni, has been out capturing some beautiful nature sights recently. The top 3 photos show a blue tit in a nesting box, a kingfisher and a busy bee hive.

Blue Rose Country Park took the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous pledge 10 years ago and now has several certificates for supporting pollinators and hedgehogs, with rough patches and drinking trays throughout the park, along with over 50 bird boxes and owl boxes in use. They’ll be extending the bird box programme this year. Here’s a photo of one of the hedgehog houses in use!

The top left picture may look like the Mediterranean, or somewhere on the continent, but it is in fact the view across Chew Valley Lake in the May sunshine. It’s just 10 minutes’ walk from your pitch at Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park. May and June are excellent times for bird watching around the lake. This family of swans and cygnets were taking shade beside the lake at Chew Lake Dam picnic area.

Some guests who stayed in the Killiwerris Touring Park static caravan saw lots of deer, hares and other wildlife. They captured a bull finch in a nearby tree and the sun setting across the fields (bottom row).

The ducks have been enjoying the sunshine on the pitches at York Naburn Lock Caravan Park (top left).

At Exe Valley Caravan Site, guests have seen red deer, dippers, a kingfisher and lots of brown trout in the river that flows along the site (bottom left). Fly fishing is free for guests, you just need your Environment Agency licence.

A guest at Grooby’s Pit captured the parrots that have been living on site for several years. “At first, we thought they were escapees from the Parrot Zoo, now Lincolnshire Wildlife Park” said park owner Tracy. “Now it seems their population is growing around the country, so we’re not sure where they came from!”
