Brandesburton, East YorkshireA truly picture-perfect country park, renowned for its customer care and meticulously kept grounds, offering a gateway to all the East Coast.
Happy New Year! We hope you are busy planning and booking your holidays and trips away this year. If you don’t yet have our handy booklet to help with your research, you can order it on our brochure page. If you’re looking for parks with bus and train services nearby, see our new report: Public Transport from Tranquil Parks 2025.
You might think most parks would be very quiet at this time of year, but there’s plenty of work going on with a wide range of upgrades and improvements. This continuous investment is what enables the parks to maintain high standards needed to earn top ratings and win national awards!
If you want to know which Tranquil Parks are open throughout January, scroll to the bottom of this post.
If you’re planning to be at the Caravan Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC in Birmingham 18-23 February, we look forward to seeing you there. We’ll be on Stand 4028, where you can meet park owners, managers and wardens, pick up a brochure and enter the special show draw with plenty of opportunities to win breaks at Tranquil Parks.
We have launched the first monthly giveaway this year with a fantastic prize from Delph Bank Touring & Glamping Park in Fleet Hargate, Lincolnshire. You could win either a touring camping or glamping stay at Delph Bank Touring Park. The prize is either 4 nights on a pitch or 2 nights in a deluxe glamping pod.
The prize can be taken at any time throughout the 2025 open season, except bank holidays – enter here. We’re also looking forward to sharing details of the new clubhouse at Delph Bank which is currently under construction. A popular feature of this park is the scenic dog walk along an old railway line.
This month we have new special offers from Blue Rose Country Park in Brandesburton, East Yorkshire and Brookside Country Park near Scunthorpe and Wolds View Country Park just outside Caistor, Lincolnshire. We also have details of a new loyalty scheme from Somers Wood Caravan Park in Meriden, North Warwickshire, (shown in the top featured image) giving you £3 off stays of 2 nights or more after your first stay this year. See all Special Offers.
Congratulations to Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park! The AA has renewed its award of 5 platinum stars for this beautiful park. “Lush parkland feel and excellent private facilities” is how the AA Inspector described it on awarding the team the AA’s top rating for the 2025 season. (See the park’s important and ‘must-book’ dates for 2025 below.)
Woodland Springs Touring Park in Dartmoor, Devon has changed hands and our best wishes go to Peter and Fiona. The new ownership is KCS05LTD, which is a family owned and operated company. The company is named after the family: Kevin & Claire Spreyer and 05 representing the 5 family members. The park is to be run by Steve and the cleaning team remains the same. The park team is headed up by Alan Mash, General Manager of the company’s parks in the South West.
One major change is that the park will now have an 11-month open season from the beginning of March to the end of January. Seasonal Tourer owners will have the option to upgrade to the longer season on a prorata basis. Another change is that they will no longer be selling alcohol in the shop in the future. But useful new items will be added in due course.
We are delighted to welcome Kevin, Claire and the team to Tranquil Parks.
We’re excited to introduce a new development at Hallsdown Farm Touring Park in North Devon – The Cabin @ Hallsdown. The first accommodation on the park, it’s a genuine Scandinavian log cabin which sleeps up to 4. Like the rest of the park, it is just for adults and dog free. Ensuite facilities include one wet room and another bathroom with a shower over a bathtub. It also features underfloor heating, a large open plan dining/sitting/kitchen area, a washer/dryer and dishwasher. We will share more photos when more rooms are completed.
Great news from Killiwerris Touring Park near Truro in Cornwall: Steve has built a new snooker and darts room! It will be available to guests at a small charge, bookable through Steve.
They are also creating a dog convenience area, which is accessible from the footpath to the bridleway. This new area will enable doggie guests to explore off the lead and we’ll share photos as soon as we get them.
The new self-service cafe is currently in progress. This area will have a coffee machine, kettle, microwave and some meals for guests to cook, as well as cakes. Guests who need to do some work or spend time relaxing away from their vans can also use this area. Steve has moved the fountain in front of the building and there will also be outside tables and chairs.
The Green Acres Caravan Park team in Cumbria have started building a new area which will include 14 new premium pitches for guests to enjoy (this will not be ready until 2026). They are currently at the stage of putting in the services, etc. Being near the Lake District and Scottish Border, snow tends to be heavier than in other parts of the country and with this month’s snowfall they took a break from the groundworks and made this wonderful snowman!
Two new cafes/restaurants have opened locally, which Josie and Mike have very kindly tested out for us (a tough job, but someone had to do it)!
At Briarfields Motel & Touring Park just outside Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, there are lots of improvements going on. Here some are photos of park owner Scott in action. The works include:
They’re still busy with improvements at Yr Helyg / The Willows Caravan & Camping Park near Abersoch, North Wales – as you can see in the photos – with the solid road around the main field, (obviously useful in not-so-dry weather), three new hardstanding fully serviced pitches, and the mtorhome waste point (therefore fully motorhome friendly) are near completion. Next is a warm dog wash!
When not working, the Jones family, who own and run the park, have been on some fabulous winter walks, as shown here. The family’s Christmas was made perfect by the news that Eleri and Hywel are to become grandparents for the first time this year! Congratulations to them.
Some of the winter jobs may seem rather mundane, but they are absolutely crucial for your enjoyment and safety. Somers Wood Caravan Park in Meriden, North Warwickshire, is a case in point. Having installed a new boiler replacement in the shower block, they have been busy clearing trees. Luckily for them, they have a professional tree surgeon in the family!
The team at Two Mills Touring Park near North Walsham in Norfolk have been very busy tidying the park with tree felling and pitch improvements. At the time of writing, specialists were on the way to refurbish the bottom facility building ready for reopening on 1 March. You will also find a few more ‘curiosities’ dotted around the site this season! The photos are of the park on a winter’s morning and Crosby, the park dog on his Christmas Day walk with cousin Nala.
The park’s lovely office worker, Sharon, retired at the end of last season, so they will be hiring a new team member closer to opening. Alun, her partner, is still a groundsman.
The team has contacted several local businesses to arrange special discounts just for Two Mills guests. Some of these include fresh homemade afternoon teas delivered to your pitch by a family bakery in town. A local cafe, which does full breakfasts, jackets, paninis, cottage pie etc., is offering a discount plus free delivery to the site. Discussions with local pubs (of which there are 7) have started and one has agreed to a discount on Sunday lunches followed by hot drinks.
We’re pleased to let you know that Red Kite Touring Park near Llanidloes, Powys, is keeping the same team for 2025. Here they are in their Christmas jumpers: (left-right) Chantelle, Tom, Rich, Ryan and Richard (groundsmen), Becca and Ray. They will also be welcoming back Paul, who was their summer warden last year.
The New Year’s eve event raised nearly £200 for Dementia UK, despite the fireworks display being stopped by the wet and windy weather. (See the park’s 2025 events listed below.)
During this closed season, they are refreshing all the amenities block flooring and we hope to share some ‘before and after’ photos.
The team at Trethem Mill Touring Park near St Mawes in Cornwall have been working on enlarging some pitches. Doesn’t it look gorgeous, even in the middle of winter!
A quick reminder of ‘must-book’ events and dates for 2025 from Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park:
Christmas guests, Mr and Mrs Cowley, are returning to Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park in 2025 as winners of a free weekend stay in the park’s best decorated unit competition over Christmas. “It’s a bit of Christmas holiday fun for everyone. This year’s decorations were so good we also awarded prizes to Mr and Mrs Growcott, and Mr and Mrs Hook,” said park owner Keith Betton.
The park has sponsored the best decorated unit competition over the Christmas and New Year period for many years. Keith added, “It’s a joy for everyone to see all the decorations around our pitches and the new friendships formed as everyone gets involved. It’s so popular, many guests have already re-booked for Christmas 2025!” Booking for Christmas and New Year 2025 is available here.
Here’s a reminder of caravans dressed up for Christmas at Blue Rose Country Park and the fantastic New Year’s Eve party in the park’s clubhouse.
