News from our parks September 2025
As the summer draws to a close, we’d like to thank everyone who spent their holidays at Tranquil Parks this year. But the season’s not over yet and many people enjoy touring all year round. Having invested in hardstanding fully serviced pitches and well heated facilities blocks, the parks have made extended touring both comfortable and convenient!
New member – Two Hoots joins Tranquil Parks
At the beginning of this month we were delighted to announce that Two Hoots Glamping, Caravan Park and Campsite in Hampshire (shown in the main photo above) had joined our group. This beautiful park not only extends our network into the South East of England, it offers guests the opportunity to experience a very special setting overlooking the South Downs.
It’s all about views, wildlife and tranquility at Two Hoots. And for that reason, it’s dog free. The park is owned and run by a husband-and-wife team, Shaun and Michele, although Michele is the one you’re most likely to meet during your stay. We did, however, catch up with Shaun to find out about the park – read our interview with Shaun. You can also find out about the park by going to the Two Hoots pages on this website.

Visit Bath Christmas from Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park
Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park is ideally situated for visiting both Bath and Bristol Christmas Markets. Bristol is the first to open its Bavarian styled Christmas Market on 7 November in the city’s shopping malls. Bath Christmas Market opens 27 November until 14 December. It’s a shopping delight to browse the 220 festively decorated chalets and stalls vending locally crafted gifts and seasonal treats in the shadow of the city’s beautiful abbey (left).
Bristol Harbour Sea Shanty Festival
Ahoy, me hearties! ‘Tis time to sing and make music at various venues around Bristol’s historic and bustling harbour on the River Avon (right), 20-21 September. If you’ll be participating in the ‘grog’, it’s best to take the bus from Bishop Sutton Post Office, a few moments’ walk from the caravan park entrance.
Park developments

- At Cartref Caravan and Camping Park near Shrewsbury in Shropshire, the team have put in dry stone Gabion baskets along one of ponds (top left); these will make a fantastic habitat for (endangered) Great Created Newts to thrive in. The team love to encourage wildlife where possible, so they have also sown wildflower seeds along the mid-level to help support pollinators. Over in Bartref, the onsite bar, they have some new additions to the bar menu: draft Guiness – even if it’s not your thing, it’s fascinating to watch a pint being pulled – along with locally sourced Wrekin Spirit Plum Gin Liqueur (which pairs very well with prosecco).
- Green Acres Caravan Park in Cumbria has received its alcohol licence and can now sell alcohol in the onsite convenience shop. There is also now a bar on site located in the sports hall and includes a coffee machine, alcoholic and soft drinks, plus bar snacks (bottom right).
- The Brookside Country Park new Holiday Home development is now complete and we have several static caravans already in situ.
- Yr Helyg The Willows are adding more fully serviced hardstanding pitches and levelling of some view pitches this winter. Happily, the wardens Jayne and Stuart are returning for a third season in 2026.
- It looks as though Padel courts will be coming to Stonebridge Golf Club next door to Somers Wood Caravan Park. Planning permission has gone in and this will be another activity for guests to enjoy when staying at Somers Wood.
Charity news
As the end of the season draws near, some parks are supporting charities with generous donations from park guests.

Hywel from South Wales Touring Park, along with neice Cari and nephew James were very pleased to visit the Wales Air Ambulance Charity base in Dafen with a donation of £1,000. A big thank you to all the guests who gave their excess electric pennies to the cause.
The Eye Kettleby Lakes team have also been supporting their local air ambulance thanks to guests separating their aluminium drink cans. The Melton Matters Wombles are collecting and crushing the cans to raise vital funds for the Air Ambulance.
We all know how important these services are, and you never know when you might need them!
Tails of the unexpected

Chew Valley Lake Attracts Bird Watching Enthusiasts
Birdwatching enthusiasts have been arriving at Chew Valley Lake in the hope of seeing and photographing rare breed waders. The warm summer has caused the water in what is one of England’s largest manmade lakes to recede to such an extent that pools and mud are providing a rich larder for waders and predators (left).
Sightings include a white tailed eagle, the UK’s largest bird of prey, large flocks of glossy ibis and around twenty great white egrets, reaching 4ft high (right photo). Three ospreys have been feeding up for their 3,000 mile autumn migration to Africa’s west coast. The Chew Valley Lake recreational trail and Bittern public viewing hide is a short walk from Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park.

Peacocks are a common sight in and around the village near Brookside Country Park, but rarely do you see an all-white one! This stunning specimen (left) was photographed near the park.
It looks as though the mobility scooter has towed this bijou setup into position (right)! In fact, this guest had friends bring her van and mobility scooter to Hallsdown Farm Touring Park in North Devon for some peaceful R&R.

Tommy the Tortoise enjoyed a stay at Red Kite Touring Park in Powys this summer, as did Brenin & Ellis the Welsh Spaniels and the guests in this beautiful Airstream setup.

Who knew roof tents would become so popular? We’ve definitely seen more of them on the parks than ever before this summer. Here’s one at Trethem Mill Touring Park on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall, together with a pair at York Naburn Lock Caravan Park.
Roof tents certainly have advantages with the high sleeping platform keeping campers away from moisture on the ground, and they’re quick to set up too. Respect to all the campers who are able to negotiate the ladders when answering a call of nature in the middle of the night!
