After so many hot days this summer, an autumn getaway to our adults-only caravan parks and campsites might have even more appeal! You can make the most of cooler days, the autumn colours and more peace and quiet, not to mention special seasonal events and discounts.
In fact, some people think autumn and winter are the ideal time to go touring or glamping. It’s not too hot for long walks, roads and attractions can be quieter, and there’s something very special about waking up in your cosy caravan, motorhome, campervan or glamping accommodation on a crisp autumn or winter’s morning, ready to head out and explore.
And with some great offers and discounts, special events, Halloween and the festive season coming up, there are plenty of reasons to make plans for the months ahead.

Getting out and about this autumn
Many Tranquil Parks are surrounded by, or close to, places where you can enjoy nature. Autumn brings wonderful cloour as well as visiting birds and wildfowl (see details further on). It can be a fantastic time for walking and discovering new places with cooler temperatures and fewer people around.

The entrance to the Recreational Trail is around 10 minutes’ walk from the Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park entrance, leading to nature trails, lakeside restaurants and pretty local villages.

NORTH WALES
At Yr Helyg/The Willows, near Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula, you can stay from 21 September to 31 October and pay for three nights and get the fourth night free.
MIDLANDS
Somers Wood Caravan Park, is continuing the midweek special: stay for three nights from Sunday to Thursday and pay for just two, using code MID342 when booking.
NE SOMERSET
At Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park, you can enjoy 10% off when you book five or more consecutive nights, using code TP510.

Winter seasonals

Moorview Touring Park, near California Cross in South Devon, has winter seasonal pitches available, with its stunning views of Dartmoor providing a beautiful backdrop for a winter stay.

Events and things to do
Frightfully good fun
This year Halloween falls on a Saturday. So far, the following parks have announced Halloween events:
- Delph Bank Touring Park in Fleet Hargate, Lincolnshire, will be having a fun night in the decorated clubhouse with a live singer and Thai cuisine. Expect the see the park team looking very different!
- Eye Kettleby Lakes is hosting a ticketed Halloween party with a circus twist. Clowns and fortune tellers are part of the theme at the event, designed to be more fun than fright. The event is only for people staying at the park.
Back of Beyond has a number of events planned throughout the autumn, including Party Classics on 7 November. See the park’s event page for details.
Watching winter waterfowl visitors
Autumn brings many species of birds and wildfowl to our shores on their migration journeys from the North. Some of the most internationally important sites are an easy trip from Tranquil Parks, such as:
- Key East Coast locations including Gibraltar Point and RSPB Frampton Marsh in Lincolnshire
- RSPB Snettisham & The Wash as well as RSPB Titchwell Marsh in Norfolk

Commemorating World War Two
Several Tranquil Parks in Lincolnshire are a great base for discovering the county’s aviation heritage and wartime heroism. The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is hosting its spectacular Fireworks & Night Taxy Runs (yes, that is the correct spelling!) on 7 November, with a Lancaster and Mosquito.
International Bomber Command Centre’s Annual Service of Remembrance takes place on 8 November.
Christmas and New Year
From Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park you can access Bath and Bristol by public transport or use the Park & Ride. This year Bristol’s Christmas Market opens on 6 November and the Bath Christmas Market runs from 23 November to 13 December.
There are frequent bus services to the centre of York from both York Naburn Lock Caravan Park and York Caravan Park, so you can leave your wheels behind and enjoy the city’s festive atmosphere without worrying about parking. York Christmas Market gets underway on 12 November and runs until 21 December.
Delph Bank Touring Park in Lincolnshire has a good bus link to Springfields Designer Outlet and Leisure in Spalding which has a Winter Wonderland lights display from mid-November.

- Somers Wood Caravan Park, which is reopening for the festive season, also has availability for Christmas and New Year
- At Red Kite Touring Park, there are just four pitches remaining for the New Year’s Eve charity event in aid of the Welsh Air Ambulance. The evening includes hot dogs, mulled wine, a glass of fizz and quiet (dog-friendly) fireworks at midnight
- Eye Kettleby Lakes has fully serviced pitches over Christmas, although New Year’s Eve is booked up.
- Delph Bank Touring & Glamping Park also has space for Christmas and ‘Twixtmas’ but is also booked for New Year
